Human Myeloperoxidase,MPO research: Human Myeloperoxidase (MPO)antigen is a peroxidase enzyme most abundantly present in neutrophil granulocytes (a subtype of white blood cells). Human Myeloperoxidase(MPO) is a lysosomal protein stored in azurophilic granules of the neutrophil. Human Myeloperoxidase (MPO) has a heme pigment, which causes its green color in secretions rich in neutrophils.
Human Myeloperoxidase (MPO) deficiency is a common inherited disorder linked to increased susceptibility to infection and malignancy. Human Myeloperoxidase (MPO) enzyme is expressed in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils and in the lysosomes of monocytes. Its major role is to aid in microbial killing. Human Myeloperoxidase MPO deficiency can be divided into two subgroups: primary (congenital) and secondary (acquired).
