What is HUMAN MYOGLOBIN?:
Human Myoglobin is a single-chain globular protein of 153 amino acids. Myoglobin contains a heme (iron-containing porphyrin) prosthetic group in the center around which the remaining apoprotein folds. Human Myoglobin has a molecular weight of 16,700 daltons. Human Myoglobin is found in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells and is capable of reversibly binding molecular oxygen and enhancing the rate of oxygen diffusion through the muscle cell. Human Myoglobin is an oxygen carrier in the cytoplasm and appears to be responsible for the transport of oxygen from the cell membrane to the mitochondrion
