Human Pepsinogen(s) PGI(PGA) and Human Pepsinogen PGII(PGC) are aspartic proteases produced in the gastric mucosa and secreted into the gastric lumen that play a major role in the digestion of proteins after activation of acidic pH. The eradication of H. pylori provokes a significant change in human serum Pepsinogen PG values: it reduces both human Pepsinogen PG I and human Pepsinogen PG II and elevates the human pepsinogen PG I(PGA) to human pepsinogen PG II(PGC) ratio.
It has been reported that human Pepsinogen I (PGA)levels were lower in atrophic corpus gastritis than in atrophic antral gastritis, and human pepsinogen I(PGA) levels were lower in advanced gastric cancer than early stage gastric cancer.
