Details

Alanine aminotransferase abbreviated as ALT or GPT(glutamate pyruvate transaminanse, catalyzes the following transamination reaction. ALT (GPT) requires pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP) as prosthetic group.

ALT(GPT) is found in liver, kidney, brain and heart , as two isoforms; cytosolic ALT and mitochondrial ALT. These enzymes function in cellular nitrogen metabolism and also liver gluconeogenesis. The cytosolic ALT leaked into blood is important as a clinical marker of acute hepatitis.

Recombinant product: r-hALT is produced as fully active cytosolic soluble protein in E. coli by expressing gene encoding cytosolic human Alanine Aminotransferase.

Applications:Calibrator/Control for ALT activity assay, Standard antigen for Immunoblotting, Standard antigen for ELISA. Marker for Hepatic cell research
The alanine aminotransferase (ALT) blood test is typically used to detect liver injury. It is often ordered in conjunction with aspartate aminotransferase (AST) or as part of a liver panel to screen for and/or help diagnose liver disease. AST and ALT are considered to be two of the most important tests to detect liver injury, although ALT is more specific than AST. Sometimes AST is compared directly to ALT and an AST/ALT ratio is calculated. This ratio may be used to distinguish between different causes of liver damage.
