Alanine aminotransferase abbreviated as ALT or GPT(glutamate pyruvate transaminanse, catalyzes the following transamination reaction. ALT (GPT) requires pyridoxal-5?-phosphate (PLP) as prosthetic group.

ALT(GPT) is found in liver, kidney, brain and heart , as two isoforms; cytosolic ALT and mitochondrial ALT. These enzymes function in cellular nitrogen metabolism and also liver gluconeogenesis. The cytosolic ALT leaked into blood is important as a clinical marker of acute hepatitis.


Recombinant product: r-hALT is produced as fully active cytosolic soluble protein in E. coli by expressing gene encoding cytosolic human Alanine Aminotransferase.
