Human Ferritin is a glycoprotein which stores iron atoms in the ferric state. Human Ferritin is predominantly intracellular, where it forms an exchangable pool of iron acting as an iron store. Human Ferritin level in serum is directly proportional to body iron stores and serum levels are an excellent indicator in monitoring iron status in anaemia. Human Ferritin levels are also indicative of the erosion of iron stores during pregnancy.
