Human Ferritin is a glycoprotein which stores iron atoms in the ferric state. Human Ferritin is predominantly intracellular, where human ferritin forms an exchangable pool of iron acting as an iron store. Human Ferritin level in serum is directly proportional to body iron stores and serum levels are an excellent indicator in monitoring iron status in anaemia. Human Serum Ferritin levels are also indicative of the erosion of iron stores during pregnancy.

Human Serum Ferritin research reports that individuals with true iron-deficiency anemia exhibit extremely low human serum ferritin values. Additional human ferritin research reports that human serum ferritin measurement is sero-diagnosis of cancer whereby high levels of human serum ferritin which are not related to body-iron stores have been observed.

Information on the different types of Human Ferritin(s) Light Chain (basic)Human Ferritin and Heavy Chain (acidic)Human Ferritin

Human Liver Ferritin and Human spleen ferritins are basic because they are made up mainly of Light( L)chains and very few Heavy( H)chains.

In contrast, human heart ferritin , human kidney ferritin, and human placental ferritin are highly acidic because they are composed of mostly heavy(H) chains
